Executive Summary

The East Bay is facing a dual crisis of persistent long-term unemployment and housing insecurity. To bridge the gap between vulnerability and self-sufficiency, Family Wellness Group, the Bay Area Black Professionals Group, and The Social Engineering Project, Inc. are co-organizing AI & Opportunity Workforce Empowerment Expo.

This event is not just a standard job fair; it is an active, tech-forward accelerator designed to equip chronically unemployed and/or unhoused individuals with contemporary digital tools (AI resume building, automated job applications, and LinkedIn networking) while simultaneously providing direct, immediate access to employers, housing resources, and county aid.

By uniting county governments, local faith-based advocates, and premier professional mentorship organizations, we aim to transition 90 East Bay residents from insecurity to sustainable employment and housing.

The Need

Contra Costa and Alameda counties continue to see elevated rates of long-term unemployment and homelessness, disproportionately affecting Black, Latino, and low-income residents. Many job seekers face compounding barriers: Months or years of unemployment that create gaps in confidence and current skills

Limited familiarity with digital job-search tools and AI-assisted resume writing
Inadequate awareness of available housing vouchers, rental assistance, and shelter pathways
Isolation from professional networks that unlock the “hidden” job market
Siloed services that require multiple trips to multiple agencies

AI & Opportunity Workforce Empowerment Expo brings these solutions together under one roof — on one day — reducing friction and maximizing impact.

Who Should Attend?

The AI & Opportunity Workforce Empowerment Expo is designed for Bay Area job seekers who are currently unemployed or underemployed, with priority given to individuals who are experiencing housing instability or are at risk of becoming unhoused. Because space is limited, submitting an application does not guarantee attendance; applicants will be notified if they have been accepted to participate. For those we cannot accommodate in person, we plan to offer future online programs to provide job seekers with similar support, including AI-assisted resume development, LinkedIn networking strategies, and other career-readiness resources.
